We seek to support and respond to the needs of the diverse New Orleans community with joy and love, and strive to amplify the creativity of New Orleans as a force for good.Through Beanlandia, we are building a vibrant community ecosystem that will supports our city in the long-term.
We are working to create "Beanlandia" a unique space that is both home of our krewe and also an eclectic community space and cultural hub.
Our goal is to invest in our community and celebrate what makes New Orleans great.
Starting with projects like Bean Madness, a charity red beans and rice cook-off tournament, we sought to support New Orleans in creative and strange ways, driven by our love of the city. When one of our krewe members was tragically killed, we worked to advocate for increased pedestrian and bicycle safety, particularly around annual events like carnival.
With COVID-19, our efforts took a leap forward. First, we launched "Feed The Front Line NOLA" which sought to support healthcare frontline workers during the initial covid wave. This effort raised over $1,000,000 and delivered 90,000 meals to healthcare workers throughout our city. We also supported 35 musicians with work (as delivery staff) and supported 45 local restaurants with food-orders. This effort showed the potential of our bean group.
After that, we created Feed The Second Line, which is now its own non-profit organization support culture bearers. We are proud of the groceries delivered, jobs created, and hurricane relief that was organized in 2020 and 2021.
At the end of 2021, we took a leap of faith and purchased an old warehouse, which we have transformed into "beanlandia", a culture hub and community space.
